Prime MInister Pearson or Diefenbaker made a committe to create a new flag after the Suez Crisis (Between Egypt vs Britain and France). Canada had proposed a concept known now as "Peacekeeping". When Canada proposed to head this off by sending troops under the UN, Egypt refused because on Canada flag then (The Red Ensign) had the flag of Great Britain on it.Prime Minister Pearson then decided Canada needed its own identity as a country to conduct its affairs.After a long time-

no that's your flag :D since like 60s i don't know exactly when but some time in the 60s (1963?) the red ensign was dropped and this is the new official flag. how can you be canadian and not know it :D

I'm Canadian, but what's that weird flag all about? I see it everywhere.Our flag is actually a red ensign. I should know, I own an atlas with all the world flags in it.Is this one like some sort of informal flag or something?
