THE SECOND BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO MUSIC
Why did it take so long? At this time last year, I hardly had
any knowledge of the computer or the music business. I was in
the process of mass marketing myself on every music web site I
could find with my plan to let everyone know the next big thing
in music, ROCKMAN was coming! Now, I was faced with the age-old
musician’s question of "What next?"
Well that plan took a back seat as I walked through the doors
of the first MUSIC EXPO. I went in with only one main mission,
to see what was happening and going to happen in the future of
music. As I walked through the doors my life changed. Years of
frustration were lifted off my shoulders. My eyes lit up as a
child’s would in a candy store. I had no idea of what was in
store for me.
I went from booth to booth – introduced myself, talked and
listened. I took books, business cards, and CDs – whatever was
being given out. I walked around with overloaded shopping bags.
I met people I had e-mailed from some of the bigger music sites.
(This helped to put a face to the e-mail..) Booth to booth, info
was flowing through my head at Pentium II speed and my brain is
only a 365 MHz. My network changing directions with every piece
of info I picked up would be very helpful in the year to come.
When I finally got home that night, I dumped all the bags out
on the dining room table and went through everything. Over the
next three weeks, I read every magazine. I learned about every
company, what they had to offer and where they were going. I
installed and learned every CD demo and some I’m still using
today.
I not only know where I’m going, but I have the next
year mapped out. I am my own web master (with a little help). I
do my own marketing, advertising, promotional, distribution,
creating, e-commerce, MP3 real audio, QuickTime, liquid audio,
network. In one year I created infra-structure. I created the
machine – A.D.H.D. Records. And my brain is like a Pentium III
600 MHz
It took me about three months to recuperate from that expo
and absorb all I’d learned. Everything I learned helped me to
create the entire infra-structure which is my network. Just as
with the computer you open one door and you’re faced with ten
more. You just have to have the determination to open them all.
To sum it up, the expo holds all the pieces of the puzzle.
All you have to do is put them together in order to put your
dreams into your own hands.
